WFS History
2000/01
The story of Warwick Finance Societies begins in 2000, with the formation of Warwick Stockbrokers, which was later renamed Warwick Banking and Finance Society.
2004/05
Warwick Stockbrokers renamed to Warwick Banking and Finance Society in 2004.
2008/09
WAIPES (Warwick Alternative Investment and Private Equity Society) was formed in 2008 by Piotr Pleskot and was run by himself and Mo Albazaz. They had a small albeit active membership base and operated effectively despite having no sponsorship!
2009/10
WBF and WAIPES collaborated in 2009 to host the first Warwick Investment Conference coordinated by Caroline Ly(WBF) & Mo Albazaz(WAIPES). The event was free and packed out MS.02.
Nikesh Parmar, WBF President 2009/10, developed a strategy over the summer alongside Mo Albazaz, to join WAIPES and WBF together to form WFS. They quickly won support from WBS, put together the constitution, setup bank accounts and acquired sponsorship! Under WFS, the
2010/11
Warwick Investment Forum ran for the first time in 2010, as a continuation of the Warwick Investment Conference of 2009. Initial steps were also made towards setting up Warwick Women in Finance before the year end. By the end of its inaugural year, WFS had almost 1000 members.
First Warwick Investment Forum held in 2010. Coordinated by Marc Kinast and Nikesh Parmar, WIF 2010 sold-out Panorama and was a huge success. It has continued every year since.
In September 2010, Mo Albazaz alongside Viv Watts and Jon Jakobsen, launched Warwick Investment Club under the WFS umbrella.
2011/12
The Warwick International Venture was launched in the 2011/12 academic year. Destination: Hong Kong. WFS organised an 11 day trip during summer 2012 for 25 of its members.
2013/14
The 2013/14 academic year saw the launch of the first WFS international tour which took place in Prague and Amsterdam in Term 1 and 2. First ever WFS Spring Ball also took place, with the theme being ‘Seven Deadly Sins’.
2014/15
Warwick Islamic Finance was launched in the 2014/15 academic year and was discontinued in 2016-7.
2015/16
Warwick Investment Forum renamed itself to Warwick International Forum in the 2015/16 academic year.
2017/18
In 2017-8, the Warwick FinTech Conference replaced the International Forum. The first conference was held in Level 39 in Canary Wharf in February 2018.
The 2017-18 Board, consisting of Marcel Satria (Co-Chairman), Adit Kulkarni (Co-Chairman), Shashtika Sundar (Co-President), Lukas Glatz (Co-President), and Joern Messner (Treasurer), restructured the society to create a more lean and efficient society. The “sub-societies” were rebranded as “teams” which included the following: Corporate Finance, Markets, FinTech, Venture Capital, Women in Finance, Commercial Law, Diversity, Marketing, Socials and External Relations. The publications were merged, digitised and renamed as The Review by WFS.
2018/19
In 2018-2019, the Board consisted of Gabriel Eyre & Hugo Cheyne (Co-Chairman), Nina Devani & Maximillian Ortner (Co-President) & Rahul Daswani (Treasurer). They led the society to attract a wider range of members by becoming more social through regular events that repeatedly sold out. Their aim to change the stigma around the society allowed for the success of weekly markets discussions, CV clinics, a Winning Women conference and regular office visits. WFS took 40 members to Berlin and continues its legacy as the Biggest society on campus.

The 2025/26 academic year marked a defining chapter for Warwick Finance Societies, building on 25 years of legacy with our most ambitious and expansive year to date.
Coming off the latter half of the 25th anniversary, we delivered our largest-ever Freshers' week lineup. With events running every single day, we engaged over 6,000 students and introduced more people to WFS than ever before. This was complemented by our biggest merchandise rollout to date, including custom keychains, playing cards, bottle openers, lanyards, tote bags, coasters, and our first-ever WFS gazebo! All significantly strengthening our on-campus presence. This early reach translated into sustained engagement throughout the year, with consistently strong attendance across events, an all-time high number of applications for Freshers’ Representative roles, reaching 1,600 SU Members, and 9,700 Instagram followers.
The 25th-anniversary celebrations culminated in our Y2K-themed clubnight at Smack, welcoming over 600 attendees. With many saying it was the best night out they have had at university!
Academically and professionally, we expanded our offering across all experience levels. We launched Diversity's Finance 101, designed to make careers in finance more accessible to students from non-traditional backgrounds, alongside the Insights x Markets Trading Academy, providing hands-on exposure to real-world trading concepts. Our Investment Banking Accelerator was further enhanced with a structured certification, ensuring members could demonstrate tangible skills developed through the programme.
We also introduced new career-focused resources, including a centralised Sponsor Calendar to keep members informed of opportunities and on-campus events, as well as four comprehensive Careers Guides covering CV writing, cover letters, and strategies for securing spring weeks and summer internships.
The WFS Newsletter was reintroduced, expanding our reach through weekly market updates and technical insights from the Insights team, helping members stay informed on the society and interview-ready.
Our members were our biggest priority. Across the year, we continued to elevate both our social and community offerings. We hosted three themed club nights, alongside a ball afterparty, and reintroduced tours with a mystery domestic trip to Blackpool Our annual ball was a true highlight. We 'balled' out with horses, fire dancers, a live magician, multiple chocolate fountains, casino tables, jazz band, and a full DJ set. And for the first time, chips could actually be exchanged for rewards of drinks and horse carriage rides!
Innovation was central to this year’s success. We launched several new flagship initiatives, including a two-day FinTech Hackathon with a £3,000 prize pool, as well as new Restructuring and M&A competitions. Our Investment Banking competitions were also taken to London and opened to students across Europe, significantly expanding our reach and prestige. The scale of opportunity available to members reached new heights, with the largest cumulative prize pools we have offered to date across competitions: £7,000. This was supported by a record number of sponsors, with over 20 leading firms partnering with WFS across the year.
We also launched the WFS Investment Fund, with analysts competing in external competitions and producing their first research report, marking a step into WFS' and the university's global recognition.
Accessibility remained a priority. We introduced a travel subsidy for selected state school students invited to our Shard Conferences, ensuring that high-potential candidates could access these opportunities regardless of financial background. Diversity and Women in Finance officially demerged to drive equal focus on state school backgrounds, BAME, neurodivergent students, women and more.
Throughout the year, we hosted an unprecedented number of speakers and industry professionals, continuing to strengthen WFS as a bridge between Warwick students and the global finance industry. We welcomed 300+ students and 80 alumni across our 3 Shard Conferences: Sell-Side, Buy-Side, and ELEVATE (Women in Finance).
We also released our first annual report. Access here: [ STAY TUNED ]
This year would not have been possible without the continued support of our sponsors, members, alumni, and executive team. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making 2025/26 our most successful year to date. As we look ahead, the team would like to build on this momentum.
We are excited to see what the next 25 years will bring for Warwick Finance Societies!
