ALTERNATIVES (VENTURE CAPITAL/PRIVATE EQUITY)

WFS offers both practical and informative events covering private capital investment strategies. These include the flagship LBO modelling workshop series and speaker events from industry leaders.

Venture Capital and Private Equity is one of the most disruptive industries we hear of today, and our mission at WFS is to expose our audience to the latest developments in this space as well as demystify the practical knowledge required to thrive in the industry. Events you can look forward to this year:

The Alternatives Division is dedicated to equipping members with a strong foundation in the buy-side industry, with a specific focus on private equity, private credit, hedge funds, real estate and venture capital. Our goal is to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world investing by delivering a rich programme of events that enhances both commercial awareness and technical capability.

This year, we will be running a series of targeted workshops and presentations designed to deepen understanding of key alternative asset classes. From exploring fund structures and investment strategies to breaking down real-world case studies and current market trends, our sessions aim to build both breadth and depth of knowledge. Members will also develop hands-on skills through financial modelling workshops tailored to buy-side roles, preparing them for the technical demands of the industry.

To provide genuine insight into the day-to-day realities of working in alternatives, we are bringing in professionals from top-tier funds to speak on topics such as deal origination, portfolio management, due diligence and market dynamics. These sessions offer invaluable exposure to the nuances of the sector and what it takes to break in and succeed.

Beyond content delivery, the division also provides practical recruiting support. We will run focused sessions on how to secure roles in private equity, venture capital, real estate, and other buy-side areas, covering CV and cover letter tips, networking strategy, interview preparation, and case study walkthroughs. Whether you are applying for off-cycle internships, spring weeks or graduate roles, we aim to demystify the recruitment process and give our members a competitive edge.

We also recognise that alternatives, and finance more broadly, should be accessible to everyone, not just those with prior experience or a finance background. That is why we will be collaborating with other divisions to run Finance for Non-Finance workshops, helping students from all disciplines build the confidence and core knowledge they need to break into the industry.

Whether you are just exploring your interest in alternatives or actively preparing for a career on the buy side, the Alternatives Division is here to support, challenge and inspire you every step of the way.
